RED-BROWED AMAZON PARROT PROJECT

A large knowledge gap was identified in the population distribution and status of the Red-browed Amazon parrot (Amazona rhodocorytha), hindering the development of conservation strategies. Because of this, Parque das Aves funded initial expeditions of the Project and since then has become co-executor together with the Neotrópica Foundation in Brazil. Once established, the Project was able to receive funding from the O Boticario Group Foundation for the Protection of Nature and today is financed and run by Parque das Aves.

The Project has mapped the occurrence and threats to this species in several municipalities in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais since 2016.

A focal point for the conservation of the species is the community of Águas Formosas in Minas Gerais where the Project tracks the nests and monitors the trafficking, working with the local community to protect the species.
