ROUTINE TASKS AT PARQUE DAS AVES’ BABY BIRD ROOM |

In 2000, a special space was developed at Parque das Aves to take care of part of the chicks born here: the Baby Bird Room.
But why do only a part of the chicks receive care in this location? It is because Parque das Aves prefers the natural birth process, which means the least human interference as possible. In this process, the parents take care of the eggs and chicks by themselves and we only make sure that they have access to everything they need to perform this task such as nests, proper nutrition, and protection.

However, some couples are not able to take care of their eggs or chicks, especially when it is their first time around at doing this. When this happens, the Baby Bird Room team provides very important aid for the birth and care of the chicks. The room is equipped with incubators where the eggs undergo periods of artificially incubation and also bird care units, or BCUs, where the chicks develop.

Many worksheets can also be found there because the technicians are doing the monitoring and keeping a daily record of each one of the chicks and eggs present there. Activities such as weighing the chicks and candling (allows you to view the development of the embryo through a light source) are other procedures that are part of the routine of the staff who work there.
