Mandatory Internship Program

This space is intended exclusively for mandatory curricular internships for students who need to complete internship hours required by their educational institution. Here you will find the guidelines and the correct path to apply for the program, according to the selection criteria and periods.

Internship Program at Parque das Aves
The internship program at Parque das Aves aims to provide monitoring of the routine of technical sectors, contributing to academic and professional training in the area of conservation and management of wild animals kept under human care. The internship is offered in the areas of Animal Welfare, Management, Animal Nutrition, and Veterinary Medicine, with a duration of one month.

The request via the form must be sent at least 3 months in advance.

At this time, we only accept curricular internships.

Internship duration: 01 month (Monday to Friday, except holidays)

Workload: 30 to 40 hours per week, according to the Institutional agreement

Internship Program at Parque das Aves
– Animal Welfare

The area leadership will assign the tasks to be developed by the intern, as well as provide guidance on how to perform them, resolve any doubts, and evaluate the student’s participation.

Activities developed:

  • Preparation of environmental enrichment items, as established in weekly schedules;
  • Assistance in providing environmental enrichment items in animal enclosures;
  • Assistance in the preparation of weekly schedules for environmental enrichment activities;
  • Development of ethograms and field sheets for ethological data collection;
  • Conducting behavioral data collection, considering different sampling and recording methods;
  • Quantitative evaluation of collected behavioral data;
  • Prepare and present a mini-project in seminar format.

– Management

The area leadership will assign the tasks to be developed by the intern, as well as provide guidance on how to perform them, resolve any doubts, and evaluate the student’s participation.

Activities conducted:

  • Monitor the keepers’ routine in daily animal care and enclosure cleaning;
  • Monitor the Butterfly House routine;
  • Monitor the Neonatology sector routine;
  • Monitor planned and occasional management activities;
  • Monitor enclosure enrichment activities;
  • Perform behavioral observations and data collection;
  • Execute other relevant activities according to the demand of the sectors;
  • Prepare and present a mini-project in seminar format.

Internship Program at Parque das Aves
– Animal Nutrition

The area leadership will assign the tasks that will be developed by the intern, as well as provide guidance on how to perform them, resolve any doubts, and evaluate the student’s participation.

Activities developed:

  • Monitor the production activities of animal diets in the food preparation area;
  • Monitor the activities of creating dietary enrichments;
  • Monitor the routine activities of the Vivarium;
  • Monitor the provision of diets;
  • Monitor consumption and assist in the control of diet leftovers;
  • Monitor management and evaluations of animal body condition, stool quality, and possible nutritional metabolic disorders;
  • Perform the necessary recording of activities, as per instructions;
  • Prepare a diet calculation spreadsheet;
  • Prepare and present a mini-project in seminar format.

Internship Program at Parque das Aves
– Veterinary Medicine

The person responsible for the area will assign the tasks that will be developed by the intern, as well as provide guidance on how to perform them, resolve any doubts, and evaluate the student’s participation.

Activities developed:

  • Monitor the Veterinary Clinic routine:
  • Assist in Preventive Medicine management;
  • Assist in clinical-surgical procedures;
  • Assist in Clinical Pathology and Animal Pathology laboratory procedures;
  • Occasionally monitor the activities of other sectors, learning about animal care in different sectors of the Technical Area;
  • Comply with the proposed Directed Study activities;
  • Prepare and present a seminar at the end of the internship period.
