FOREST EXPERIENCE

When the Guarani welcome a visitor in their village, they initially make a celebration that involves dance, food and the tobacco cerimonial. Only afterwards they talk and get to know each other.

Through Forest Experience, the Guarani invite you to live this experience by immersing yourself briefly in their culture, in the middle of the Atlantic Rainforest, at night, around a bonfire accompanied by a traditional dinner shared with them.

WHAT IS IT?

Forest Experience is a cultural experience that takes place in the forest of Parque das Aves with the Mbya-Guarani, inhabitants of the Jacy Porã village, located just across the Iguaçu River in Argentina. During the experience, the Guarani hold a welcome ceremony, that involves dance, food and the tobacco ceremonial.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE EXPERIENCE?

The experience varies each night, but it always starts with a reception at a space specially designed to provide comfort and tranquility to our visitors.

In this space, you can observe the beauty of the forest in the surrounding, while tasting some drinks specially created for the event (two options: alcoholic and non-alcoholic) as well as an appetizer, all inspired by the Guarani culture. At the same time, your host will instruct you about the conduct required for the ceremony.

After this brief introduction, you will be invited to move to the place where the encounter with the Guarani will happen, following a trail in the forest until you reach a clearing in the woods.

When you reach the spot, you will be welcomed by the Guarani and be seated close to the bonfire. You will hear music, watch rituals that involve dance, and will be invited to participate in key moments. Dinner will be prepared in a grill over a separate campfire, keeping hygiene and freshness of the food in first place. You will also have cold drinks at your disposal (water and a seasonal fresh fruit juice).

Once the experience is close to the end, the Guarani will bid farewell and the group will return to the trail directing themselves to the exit of the park. The hostess will accompany the group at all times, for everyone’s safety and comfort.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Participants must be over 18 years of age, but 16- and 17-year-olds can
participate accompanied by the parents or a responsible adult.

WHAT HAPPENS TO TICKET MONEY?

The aim of Forest Experience is to increase the respect and visibility of the Guarani within the touristic panorama of Foz do Iguaçu, in addition to creating an important source of income for the village. The collected money goes back to the Guarani in two ways: By participating in Forest Experience, each Guarani gets paid; and part of the money raised goes to a fund set up for the Guarani. The fund was specially created so the money can be used for the construction of clean water sources, like an artesian well, for the building of a shed for the community meetings, or for a car for the village, for example. The members of the village have total autonomy to determine how the money is going to be used. Furthermore, members of the village were consulted to establish the amount given to each participant and to the fund, as well as the tickets price for Forest Experience. This is a not-for-profit project, and its only aim is to strengthen the culture, pride and health of the Guarani community.
